Once again this month, we’d like to share what’s new with us. What you’ll notice immediately is the new format of our newsletter. The advantage is that it provides a set structure for writing, so there’s no more second-guessing what goes where. We intentionally kept it brief and focused on the essentials.

The painter Josef Friedrich Limmer is one of the few artists who, while living in Germany, created works against the Nazi regime. Stylistically, many of his works can be classified as Magic Realism. So far, however, little is known about him, and we are currently in the process of reconstructing his biography.
Five impressive works of his have found their way into our collection.

Elfriede Lohse-Wächtler was a Dresden-based painter whose marriage collapsed due to her husband's escapades, leaving deep scars on her psyche. At first, she spent several months in a psychiatric clinic in Hamburg at the urging of friends who wanted to help her. After returning to her parents in Dresden, conflicts with her father led to another admission to a psychiatric hospital. This proved to be a grave mistake following the Nazi rise to power.
The Kunsthalle Vogelmann in Heilbronn is exhibiting her works from June 28 to November 2, 2025.
